First question... What fish are you trying to seperate?
Second question... What size is the tank?
Egg crate is great for large fish, but if you have fish that are breeding, it doesn't do a very good job.

Egg crate would be your choice than. It is usually in the lighting department with the light diffusers. They come in a 2'x4' sheet, and are ~$5.
