I had a mated pair of BGGG Jack Dempseys.They spawned 4 times for me in the past.Always about a week after spawning the male(5 inches) would rough up the female(4 inches).I would remove him and she would try and raise her fry by herself.Then about 4 to 6 weeks later I would put them together again and they would mate.The last time I put them together he actually killed her.They were in a 46 gallon bow tank by themselves.I have another BGGG female JD that I put in the tank with the male,but am using a tank divider.How long do I keep the divider up for?Should I look to see if they are flirting with each other or being aggressive toward each other?I want to be very careful and not let him kill another female.

If the male is bigger make a divider where only the female can pass. Then if she starts to get beat up she will have a place to go. The only other option is you seriously watching them.
