hey guys, what is considered to be a bad base layer for tanks with stingrays? how do u define too big or rough?

Sandy, or small rocks with no sharp ends, as easy as that.

will small pebble-like things do? i find sand rather sharp actually and hard to lay it at first cos water becomes extremely cloudy. or is that case only for me?

You can go sand (rinse it first), bare bottom, or tile. Although some people like small round gravel. Just don't want it so thick it encourages bacteria build up.

ok, shall try some small pebbles or perhaps sand agn. just hate sand cos of the initial part where it turns cloudy.. any idea how to counter this?

Wash it several times before putting in tank. If it's fine sand, it will kick up easily and end up in your filter.

I use caribsea torpedo beach in some of my ray tanks, it has a grain size of .2mil to 1.2mil. It doesn't cloud the water or get kicked up by the rays.
