Have a chance to pick up a tank that is 48 long 24 wide but only 16.5 tall. Do you guys think this would work for a life time tank for the smaller bichirs and spiny eels? Senegals, starry night, delhezi, mokele mbembe that sort of size? I'm concerned that it may be a bit on the short side.

Sounds good, spiny eels as in yellow tail, peacock, zig zag, etc? More will chime in about quantity.

All those fish don’t care much for height and frag tanks in my opinion better suit them as floor space is the most important. As far as life time I think those fish are fine from an individual size standpoint but you’ll need to manage how many in total as they get larger. I would try to get creative with creating space

Fishnerd360 Those types are what I had in mind for sure I want to kind of stay in the 15ish or smaller range. I would of course over filter as usual :) and I'm solid on my maintenance schedules so may be 10 or 12 guys total maybe fewer still up in the air a little.
