I got an old 125 gallon tank made by living world fish tank.

It doesn't have a suport brace as i hear some old tanks don't.

However on the sides the original owner shaved off the plastic from on the outside so his wood canopy would fit.

Is it okay to leave it like that or does it need replacement frame?

I had one of those old 125's without the cross braces.I never liked the frame because my glass tops and lights wouldn't sit right.I eventually changed the frame out for one with braces that I got from a local shop.... I'm with Gil on this one.

ok, so the side of the trim was removed but the top was left? it looks to be identical to my 90G. Just pieces of plastic siliconed to the tank for appearances sake, not to provide any structural improvement.
if the top was one piece I'd be concerned, as it is, I see no need to replace it for strengths sake.

Ya if you can tell it's 4 different places that makes the frame its not one solid peace. It's not connected in the corners and so suport bars
