Tank gravel ? Curiosity

ive noticed quite few tanks in the pictures ive seen on this forum and alot of them have either no or very little substrate in the bottom any reason why is in better for the fish etc i know its probably a dumb question but im a little curious

It's easier to clean and with rays some people don't want them burying their self
