tank height question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Rays like to be able to swim, 8" would cover a ray but really wouldn't give them any room to swim in. Also that tank would have to have a massive footprint, you need alot of gallons or your going to be doing water changes like crazy to keep your water parameters where they should be. My shortest tank is 20", wouldn't recommend anything shorter.

If you've never kept a ray before you probably wouldnt know it, but rays arent entirely bottom dwelling. They love to swim and climb walls. IME, the height of the tank should be atleast 1 1/2 times the disk width of the ray, as they can propel themselves over the water line when climbing.

yes do more research also identify the species you are looking at as there is no teacup like pete said, and just because the ray you are looking at might be cheap. well those cheap ones are harder to keep alive in most cases.

I just order 4'x4'x16"...
