so i had 4 fish die on me in a mtter of a month...got a red tail let and a oscar...my tank for som reason did a mini cycle and now i have my friends filter pad in my filter to give it good bacteria to speed it up...i do water changes ever week about 10 gallons and my water cleard up a lilttle bit...im scared of loosing my oscar and catfish...hes startin to breath heavy a lil...anything i can do or just wait it out??

^^ the tank has bin going for a year and a half...for some odd reason my tank did a huge mini cycle with itself..starting all over...loosing all its good bacteria and now trying to gain it all back....killing 5 fish...oscar looks good and the red tail also...but my water is still cloudy but is slightly clearer then it was 3 weeks ago...i have my friends filter pad from his tank in my filter to speed it up....but it doesnt seem to be getting better rele

if your have had the tank water for 1.5 years why would you change the filter. i would clean the filter pad you have and add new carbon if you use it. or if you are using chemicals remove the carbon. as per chemical request. His pad would only add new problems. add some salt, clean the glass, and clean the gravel. are you using special lights. they loose their potency before they burn out. Make sure you are getting sufficient bubbles. Good Luck

lol^^^ i never changed the filter pads in my filter...my tank did a mini cycle and is starting to cycle itself all over again....i used my friends filter pad to speed up the cycle.....and this all startd because i changed my carbon and it killd all of my good bacteria and now has to start over

The phrase "huge mini-cycle" sounds funny to me :)

Find out the cause of your BB dieing. Until then, you know what to do; allow your BB to colonize. Keep ammonia below 1 ppm (if not zero); do water changes to keep below 1 ppm.

BTW: what are your water parameters? (nitrites, nitrates, ammonia, pH, etc...)

Good luck!

I'v been reading your other treads, it seems like you've been having a lot of issues.

1. what are your water parameters?

2. Are you using declorinator when doing these water changes?

3. How big is your tank and what filtration?
