Hey guys,

My aunts quarantine not main tank was just hit by ick!!!! She said it happened over night.

What should she do?

She has two banner butterfly fish, and two tiny tiny red gobies in the quarantine.

So far she placed copper safe medicine, and I told her to raise the temp to 85.

Anything else?

Raising the temp will prevent/eliminate ICH.
Make sure she removed the carbon from her filter
and replaces it after medicating.

Should be fine then, just give it some time and wait a week after all visible signs of ich are gone before placing the new fish into the main display.

Look for white spots, rapid breathing/gill movement and if the fish are scratching themselves on the side of stuff.

If the fish are in quarantine, I'd raise the temp and let the tank sit for a month just to be safe. Sorry for the outbreak, ich sucks!

Hypo treatment is the best way to go about it. Raising the temps will help progress the life cycle of the parisite, but won't eliminate it. DON'T use copper for ich, hyposalinity treatment is much more safe and just as effective. Stop using the copper, especially if you're not testing the levels.

I agree, lower the salinity. 1.020-1.021 and a higher temp to speed up the life cycle.

What she really needs to do is get better h2o quality. I know that you guys have issues with that.

Lol..came back to this thread. I personally been thinking of an RO Unit....those banner fish died. The ick left...came back...left....came back....left came back...then died. I still can't wait for a sump! Lol keep bringing it up.....
