I'm looking for a tank manufacturer near Tennessee. I only know of glasscages.com and they really don't have a good rep.

BUMP!

the only real problem I have heard over and over with glass cages is customer service but still it's not 100% of the time. Living so close I would not try to find another tank manufacturer. Ask the people who have there tanks if they like the tank. And the tank only. I bet you will find many happy people.

People who know a guy who had a glasscages tank 10 years ago don't count. and customer service can take a back burner if people are happy in the end.

Also you would be close enough that if you had problems you can drive there and hash it out with the managment in person. It's alot easier to get stuff done FAST when you talk face to face with the guy your paying $$$$ to make a big tank.

And there are not many custom tank places around b/c the call for them is not that great. most people will be happy for there lives in the tank sizes that are readily available in any good LFS.

I can't think of the name of the company, but I just got a quote back from them and WOW! I asked for a 108"x36"x30". guess what the cost was??? $7,500. I think I would stick to glasscages.

I can say I have seen quite a few of them in florida that looked good, and the owners were happy. A few were over 300 gals and had no frames, but no bowing and it looed really freaking cool, so big with no trim.

Your right Koop. I am a tight wad and would hate to spend a few grand on a Monster tank and it bust after their 90 day warranty.

I'm looking at their 500 gal. which is a lot cheaper than anywhere else I have seen. But to have 500 gallons of water on my floor is what is making me hesitate. I'm just checking the market for now, it will be next Spring before I make any decisions. I'm adding a bonus/sun room onto my house and I plan to have an indoor pond and two very large tanks.

My reasoning for being picky is this room is pretty much being built for my love of the hobby. When I get time I might see if they will let me come and see their facility and maybe talk to some of the employees and get the real scoop on their tanks.

I thought there was a large manufacturer in Georgia. I remember someone telling me the old owner was using the wrong chemical to bond the acrylic and tanks were busting but some guy bought it and produces a quality tank now. Maybe someone will know what I'm talking about.

I dont know of any others in that area. But I got one from a place in canada shipped to louisiana before and the price wasnt bad...miracles in glass but shipping these days might be harsh. I got a custom 280 (6x3x2) with starphire glass externial overflows shipped for 2500 and 500 was shipping 5 years ago. I never set it up (long story) so now I have a 240 from glass cages...not custom but reef ready and got it with a 75gal for 1100. The thing is built like a tank....the same way the custom 280 was...other than a kinda maybe sorta slopy silicon job I cant see anything wrong with it. I heard the CS wasnt top notch but when I had to talk to them they were just fine. My bro n law has had a 135 reef ready GC tank and its been just fine too. Hope this helps and GL.

Thanks for sharing your experience NOLAGT.

I am a member of a turtle forum and all of their members really like GC too, but most of them don't have any tanks over 200 gal.

I really like the look of the acrylic tanks with the two front corners curved. I'm assuming the front and sides are all one piece and the back is siliconed. Maybe I can find some time to visit GC soon and help me make up my mind before I get to far into my blueprints for my addition to my house.

Thanks again
