I'm in the process of setting up a new 135 gal. and would like to house some GT's. I read the profile post here and am wondering what would be a suitable mix with them. Elec. Blue Dempseys? Looking for feed back from some GT experts.

When you say, "Some GT's", how many do you mean? Growing out four or five until you get the best is fine. But keeping that many as adults in a 135 won't work. A pair would be ok but two males would fight. The dominant one will beat the other one. some people have very aggressive GTs but for the most part they don't seem that aggressive to me. They will do fine with other large cichlids that don't attack them but will defend themselves if need be. Some of the ones that are commonly found in pet stores can be sickly, not always but quite often enough for them to have a reputation for it. Try to get yours from a good breeder/supplier to limit the chances of you having to constantly nurse a GT to health. Feed them a quality pellet, green peas, and other vegetables to keep them in good health.

NO EBJD the gt will kill it......

IMO, That depends on the fish and layout of the tank. I think some members on here have kept EBJD and GTs before with success. Regardless, use caution.

Regular JDs would be fine, Firemouth, Convicts.

Its seems that GTs are one species of fish who's aggression level can have a large range, from the "not so aggressive" to "nearly psychotic".

hope this helps

Thanks for the replies. as for the number, yes i have all juveniles right now. 5 to be exact. Only about 2.5 inches long that i am growing out hoping to get a pair out of. I knew they were of the aggressive type but didn't know their temperament range was that vast. Fully grown their a beautiful fish and i was hoping that The EBJD might compliment them color wise and would make for a good looking tank.
