ok well i have a 60 gallon which has a senegalus and a blood parrot and im wondering what else i could look to put into that tank, the blood parrot just laid eggs this weekend.

i was thinking geos, or other south american cichlids.

just not sure what would go with these fish, i know my puffers but not my cichlids.

also anyone have a good way to feed the bichir cus i have noticed the blood parrot is just alot quicker ate eating, would it be better to feed at night?

if your parrot has laid eggs, be prepared to lose some fish... she'll attack anything that comes close. i had a pair take over my tank when they where preparing to lay eggs. lost an oscar a tinfoil barb and a severum to that pair.

feed your sen with a tube, or a pair of forceps if possible drop food on its nose. also feed at night, it wil give the sen the edge.

as for tankmates, any aggressive cichlids should be avoided. but most of the other large, less-aggresive cichlids should work. assuming neither fish can fit into the others mouth.

i keep an oscar with my sens, there was a little nipping at the start, but the o has left the sens alone now and all is good in the tank.

my sens are 4" and 2" each, my oscar is 3-4". it could kill the little sen, but is more interested in the prawn and pellet i throw in now, than it is in the two swimming hotdogs...

yea i think im gonna have to go away form bloodworms and towards prawn.,

so you think something like the geos would work then?

i dont think the tanks large enough for an oscar being only a 60 gallon

you could chop up some earth worms and throw them in at night thats what i did when i wasnt sure my bichir wasnt getting food and i watched him eat it to so just watch the tank and make sure he gets his share

Also i was told by my LFS that blood parrots are sterile? is this true?

if not is there any way to breed the blood parots and which fish do they tend to breed with?

does this mean i can try and add in a male regular non-hybrid cichlid?

which cichlids make up a blood parrot?

i would love to try and breed cichlids but which fish do i need

you'll another tank to breed and keep them in they will be far to agressive when raising fry for any bichir to be in the tank with them-Anne
