I'm going to get a new tank built and from what I'm being told the cost is about the same for the 32 tall. Glass or acrylic.
The tank would be a peninsula tank. 72 long by 24 deep by 32 or 36 tall.
No way to do a 36 tall in glass. The tank would need to be built with thicker glass. Money and weight.
The fish are going to be Haps and Peacocks.
I have done sumps and would rather go with multiple canister filters.
I think I have to use a canopy for the returns. I don't want to but...
Any ideas on the materials vs size?
Any ideas on filtration.
Thanks

If glass, 3/4" annealed glass is what you want for every panel. You'll want a full perimeter glass eurobrace with at least one crossbrace for the top brace.

If you want to use cheaper glass, you could reduce to height to around 24" and use 1/2" glass for the front back and sides. I would still try to use the thickest possible material for the bottom panel.

i would utilize a "floating bottom" design for a tank this size (side panels wrapped around the bottom).

I'm not sure what you mean by floating bottom?
I'm looking for input on the pros and cons of the tank.
Advanced aquatics would be the builder most likely.
Is glass that much better to negate the weight of a tank in the size of Im thinking about?

Floating bottom refers to the method of tank construction. I thought you were building yourself so just disregard that.

I'm a fan of glass personally. Realistically, either tank that size, acrylic or glass, is going to be very heavy and require special care when moving and setting up. Acrylic will probably be a bit lighter...just not a lot in the grand scheme of things imo.
