So if everything works out right i should be getting a Bagarius Yarelli very soon. What i would like to know is what you guys think would be good tank mates (temporarily) for a Bagarius yarelli. I did some research and found that there are alot of barbs native to its habitat so i went out and got some tinfoil barbs. anyone else have any suggestions?

In addition if you have a B. Yarelli, what do you feed it

Tankmates should be as large or larger than the b.yarelli and even then it should be well fed and still may not be trusted with some tankmates. I raised one from 6" to 18" in a tank with other predator catfish species and a constant supply of feeder goldfish. I then sold it as it was getting too large for my 125G tank and also because it ate my favorite 6" Indian bagrid catfish. I hope tinfoil barbs aren't too expensive...

these are the type of fish that u need a huge tank to have tank mates.... we need to know the size of tank u got cuz it really depends on that remember these like cooler water and a fast current with round river rocks and a sand bottem...... make sure u got atleast one larger cave made out of river rock for it to hide in ans since u gona need a very large tank in a bit u could go for some tor sp......

the tinfoil babs arent expensive at all, 2.99 at petsmart, still a little to expensive to be feeders though, but im willing to take the risk. ive lowered the temp of the tank down to about 70 degrees, i have one rock cave, and a driftwood standing upright in one of the corners which also forms a cave. right now the tanks a 125 6ft long, but i know im going to upgrade. Ive been doing my research on these guys, im just a little curious as to what you guys might do thats all. YELLOW CAT, how long did it take yours to reach that size? I plan on keeping mine fed on a diet of frozen smelt, sinking pellets, market shrimp, and occasionally feeders after theyve been quarentined. the tank hes in wont have a ton of tank mates. im thinking one or two more fish and thatll be it, and as the tinfoil barbs get larger, theyll be going to my parents house to live in there tank. I want the Yarelli to be the focus of my tank.

If I recall, it took about a year and a half to grow to 18" when I sold it. As others have said, they like cooler water and current from a powerhead. The tank with S/A and Asian cats it was in with was kept at 74F with no problems with and without a powerhead. BTW, the guy I sold it to kept it for another year or so until it reached about 24". He sold it to another guy I know and 2 years later it grew to 48" and I have seen the pic's too! He named it 'Lucifer' an amazing fish...

I should mention that I originally didn't want a b. yarelli, the fish was sold as a b. bagarius, they look very similar as juveniles and the b. bagarius only grow to about a foot long and by then I wanted to be done with raising monster fish and the issues that go along with keeping and trying to sell them, etc. Anyway here's 2 pic's of the same fish, one taken by it's 3rd owner at 4 feet or so and one @18" just before I sold it...

awesome looking fish man, i was just about to ask if you got any pics. ive got one powerhead at the bottom, one at the middle, and one at the top, which is the output from my under gravel filter. id addition ive got the output for my canister filter at the top of the tank. the water temp is about 70 degreesi have gravel instead of sand.

i've got 2 babys (3") in with baby peacock bass, baby datnoids, and a baby arowana. the goonch stay on the bottom and i've never had any problems with them biting my other fish fins or anything...yet. also i dont think they mind the slightly warmer water. they eat brine shrimp like crazy weather the lights are on or off.

good, i got a buncha of brine shrimp... im considering getting an aro but aint got the cash right now
