planning a tank around a group of 4 c. regani... what should i put in a 40 gallon tank with them? will german blue rams be ok? what about cories, yo yo loaches, and schooling fish like tetras?

anything that won't fit in their mouth will be ok.
if you were to get cory's i would recommend large sturbai's
if tetras, larger bodied tetras as neons, cardinals and the like will become food

is it 2 pairs? If so watch them as it might be too close for them if they spawn. Lots of hiding places will help as well as plants...
i'm actually not sure what the gender ratio will be... i just found a place that could get me some. the set up will have a lot of live plants, driftwood and broken up clay pots as caves. for tank mates, i'm trying to make sure that they are around 3" and have a not so easy to eat body.
