I currently have a 72”x18”x22” 125 gallon tank setup that is the home for:

11.5” Tiger Oscar 2 years old
9” Albino Oscar about a year old
3x Spotted Silver Dollars Ranging from 2.5” to 3.5”
14” Common Plecostomus around 2 and 1/2 years old (will remove him if he surpasses 16”)
…and while I’ll admit they are a bit out of place: 2x 3” to 4” Golden Gourami 2 years old (they will be moved to their own 29 gallon once new fish are added)

Mot sure if it applies here but:
Temperature 77.5 f
Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
Nitrate: 10-20ppm (I know this should be lower and I will be adding more filtration before any new fish)
pH: 6.8

…Yes, it’s a test strip reading (I keep it simple so my wife will check them for me while I’m in and out of town) the tank receives a 25% water change weekly and everyone seems to be happy.

The question here is; “I want some tank mates and I need to know through experiences and opinion, what exactly I can comfortably add to this tank?”

I am really wanting to add both a Red Headed Severum and/or a female Convict (prefer their color to the males).

Can these fish be added to the tank (grown out of course)?

One or the other or both?

I have read different opinions and watched different videos online that have answered this question in completely opposite ways; some yes, some no, some don’t have a clue. So I figured like all the other questions I’ve had, I’d post it here.

Please feel free to add your opinion :D

P.S. Thanks out to everyone on this forum that has helped me since I’ve been here. I know I have more questions than answers right now but I still feel pretty new to this whole thing. I’ve been doing this for a little under 3 years now and I just want to make sure that I can get everything down with the fish I keep, before I start to give out too much advice to others.

honestly i wouldnt add anything. A female convict will get killed as they stay pretty small and you would need a good sized severum so the oscars dont kill it

I agree with aqua. i wouldnt add anything either, but i like to understock my tanks.

On a side note......Nitrate levels will not be effected by adding filtration unless you use specific filtration to do so, and dentrators can get expensive. Nitrate levels are dictated by bioload of your tank and it doesnt matter if you run 1 or 10 filters. Plants and Purigen are more cost effective ways to control nitrates.......

but I still wouldnt add any more fish
