Basically ive had my polleni a while now, he's a gret fish but very aggressive, he's 8" in size and im finding it very hard to find fish which are compatable! First off i had a Jack Dempsey and he bullied him and sadly he died, i also have a yellow lab who is doing great. Recently i bought a 4" inch oscar and i had to take him straight out as my polleni did nothing but chase him. Then i took the oscar back to the pet shop. I had a convosation with the guy in the fish shop and he suggested i take the Green Severum, as it was the Alpha Male in the tank in the fish shop. i got it home and for the first few hours all was well. Its been a few days now and my polleni again is chasing the Green Severum like mad and trying to nip him. Is there any fish i can put with my polleni? he is just so unsocialable. i knew they were agressive but this fish is beyond aggressive! Im not sure what to do about my green severum as i really like it being in my tank but i dont want it to die. My tank is 52 gallons/240 litre the only fish in the tank is my 8" polleni 7" green severum, small yellow lab, and two tiger barbs.

Can somebody please give me some advice or something with what to do about my polleni and green severum.
its really getting me down!!

Any cichlids that are big enough to handle the abuse of the polleni will be considered a threat and therefore chased relentlessly. In a 52 gallon tank, you're very limited on what else you can put in with the polleni.

A couple things you can try if you're set on another large cichlid or keeping the severum. Put an egg crate divider (the plastic light diffuser stuff found in the lighting department at home depot or lowe's) in the tank. This will allow the polleni to see the severum without being able to get at it. After a while, it may stop feeling threatened by it.

Okay I'll give it a go, I'll see how it goes I love the severum an want it to be okay but I'm attached to my polleni too!! Ahhh! Anything is worth a try!

Your problem, in my experience, is that you're trying new worlds with a Polleni and that is something a Polleni absolutely will not go for. Maybe it's just mine, but I've never seen a fish where the new world vs old world clash is more prevalent. Mine couldn't stand my Texas Cichlid, chased my GT nonstop, tolerated a smaller geophagus, but only to a point. I now have him in a 55 gallon tank with 8 rift lake cichlids (peacocks and haps - all a little smaller, not much) and he's perfectly fine. He's about the same size as yours. It might sound crazy, but it has worked really well for me.

go for different species of fish, he will leave them alone as he does not feel threatend by them, i learned this with my rd and jag

I should add that if you go that route (adding more fish to reduce aggression) you should take the Polleni out, rearrange your tank's interior and then put them all in. Otherwise the Polleni is just going to see it as an invasion of his space, regardless of the fish's size or origin.

I had my Bleekeri in a 50breeder with a blackbelt & a flowerhorn

ITs gonna kick the crap out of everythign u put in with it. Beings u didnt raise it with other fish. only chance to rearange the tank and add him but your 55 is sorta small. so try finding another pollini sex and breed them.

okay so i got a piece of glass made up with some small holes, to allow the water flow through... how long should i isolate the fish for?
