I need help with tank mates for a 90 gallon cichlid tank.
it is currently housing a red devil, convict and two firemouths. I used to have another convict but he died around a month ago, since then the two firemouths are torturing the alive convict.
How can I make this situation better? Should I remove fish? Should I add fish? I’ve been wanting to add new fish for a while now, if I were to add any, which ones?

Thank you.

I’d also pull the devil - in a small tank that stocking will whittle down to just one red devil.

The tank is too small for all those fish for very long. Unless you plan to upgrade, you need to decide what you want for the tank; one large solo fish (the devil) with no tank mates - which I don't recommend unless your devil is a female; if it's a male a 90gal is too small for an adult - or a few small fish in a more "community" type set up (as far as that ever can go with cichlids).

If it were me, in that size tank, I'd stock with 4 or 5 FMs (they prefer living in shoals of 4 or more) and no other cichlids.
Better tank mates would be geographically correct live bearers like sail fin mollies, or Astyanax or other tetras that also inhabit that part of Mexico, where FMs are found, and are not competitors for the limited territory. They would also inhabit and add interest to mid and upper area's of the tank the FMs avoid.

Above are Roeboides tetras, found all over Central America, and that (like Astyanax) prefer the same water parameters preferred by Central American cichlids, hard, higher pH conditions.

I'm gonna focus on the part about making the situation better, which is fairly easy imo. You could set up a couple of smaller tanks in an out of the way area, 30-40 gallons, to house the smaller fish while you find them a home or make up a tank for them later. Such tanks can usually be found on craigslist very cheap or free in used condition. Other than that I can't see them working out in the 90 and you will soon have fewer fish. Best of luck moving forward though.

alrighty yeah. I’ve had them in this tank for a few years now sucks to hear this. I’m pretty sure the red devil is a female because she has an extremely good temper and doesn’t have a large hump on her head. Tysm for the advice!
