Are any tank meds usefull alot of you ppl seem to hate them...."just throw in some salt they will pull through".... my friend at the LFS(not petco, petsmart, pet land, hes local) always recommends melafix depending on symtoms says its all natural and not harmfull to non infected fish is this true ....id like to belive him he seems knowledgeable. are any tank meds good??? or should i use salt...lol.....if any are usefull what symptoms/condisions do they treat???????:nilly: :nilly:

I use melafix and pemafix for my sick fish and if its bad enough i will use them both for instance recently my pike got a fungal infection neither one by itself was enough but both together cured in about 3 days. IF you buy melafix make sure you buy the concentrate version $30 for a 64oz bottle were 5ml treats 50 gallons instead of 5ml for every 10 gallons with the non concentrate thats about $15 bucks for a 12oz bottle.

I've used Melafix, it's ok. But I prefer salt and warm water. Cold water causes a lot of problems, so increasing temp helps. But when using salt and raising temp you have to make sure you keep lots of oxygen in the water as both of them decreases the amount of oxygen

i use melafix. i got the consentrated stuff like 5ml=50 gallons. i use salt on a reg basis.i haven't had to medicate in forever though. im a lil over protective of my fish.

I have only had to medicate twice in 5 years. also I found that concetrated melafix for $30 at bigalsonline.com and that is the cheapest I have seen it.

I've had really bad problems using mela/pima-fix on any air-breathing species. I've stopped using them completely and just resort to salt and temp predominantly.

Salt and increased temp is VERY effective for most common conditions and wont upset the stability of your system. Anything serious enough to require medication should be resurved for a dedicated hospital tank and not your main aquarium IMO.
