I live in a 1 bedroom apartment and since this will be the first time I will have a stable residence for a few years, I want to setup a 75g saltwater tank. I would have to go in my living room, which happens to also house a fairly respectable home theater system. While I do not have a subwoofer out of consideration to my neighbors, the system still moves a lot of air down to about 35Hz. (2x Klipsch RF-82II, RC-62II, 2x RS-52II)

The apartment management said a 75 gallon tank would be fine, so that is not a concern, but it would have to be situated adjacent to the prime listening zone, and within about 2 feet of one of the surround speakers. Basically, it would be just outside the direct axis of one of the front speakers. While I have read that some fish do not do well in a noisy environment, I have not been able to find any information as to exactly what that means. Would a few hours per day of watching television, and a movie or two per week cause major stress for the fish? Or, would it be more akin to them just being slightly annoyed? I dont want to get a tank if I will be putting the fish into an environment that is in any way unsafe for them.

Nope they wont even know

Ive had huge bose surround sound systems next to my tanks and they never even flinched

I would agree for the most part. When my tank used to be in with my surround sound system, the fish would sometimes hide as the system turned on, but other wise it didn't seem to bother them. They still bred.

I try to have my fish breed, not to sell, but because I like to watch the process (I think I'm a creeper!!) and the raising of babies - and seeing how many survive. If the fish are breeding, then the system must be pretty healthy.

My fish would all be going trying to kill me if this was the case haha, I have even had the aquarium stand shaking from having it too loud, fish were fine.

In my bedroom I do have a tank right under the sub and center speakers no issues also but its a weaker system, I have not noticed any effect on the fish.

Ive often wondered about this while having music blasting only meters aquariums. But waterfalls are noisy so....
