So I am moving in a few weeks and the only place to put my tank where I am moving to is by a wall with 3 windows. There is a/c in the house and I will keep it at about 76 during summer, but it gets up to 110-120 during the hottest part of summer here. Anyone ever lived in a hot place with tanks close to a window? I am worried about how much heat/light from the window will affect the tank.

Be prepared to put a screen top on the tank and run fans across the surface. That helps tremendously here in Northern Cali.

So being near the window makes the tank that much hotter?

If you have ac, you shouldn't have a problem. Maybe pull the curtains at certain parts of the day.

Thats what I am hoping, but I dont know how much heat/light will radiate from the windows. They are on the west side of the house so it should only get direct sun in the morning.

I've had it get around 110 F for 2-3 days at a time and my ac makes it pretty managable. My reef tank is a little bit more problematic. If anything situate the tank for maximum exposure from one window and then cover the window. (close the curtains etc) Preferably the window you want to look out of the least. It also wouldn't hurt to put it close to an air register.

I think there is an air register pretty close to where the tank will be actually. I was going to try putting a tint on those windows to help.

That was my next suggestion tint the windows or drape them. Also if the sun only hits it directly for a small part of the day you should be alright. The ac will help a lot especially with a register nearby. Upon further thought I wouldnt worry about it. The only thing I would worry about is algae from sun light.

Well there shouldnt be too much sunlight that makes it into the tank, the backside of the tank will be painted.

That should help. Time will tell but I would go for it.
