I have a full grown (assumedly) blue crayfish that I want to put in a 35 with another large fish or pair of large fish. I am going to construct a cave system for a little over a 1/4 of the tank for the crayfish and the rest will be mostly open for whatever fish I get. I was thinking maybe a Jack Dempsey? Any suggestions would be helpful :D

I WOULD THINK TWICE ABOUT A JD. WE HAD TWO CRAYFISH IN WITH OUR JD SOON AS THE CRAYFISH MOLDED AND GOT SOFT THEY BECAME LUNCH

Any large cichlid might eat the crayfish. Any small fish will get eaten by the crayfish (they catch them at night ). You might get by with a medium sized fish that's too hard for the crayfish to catch, and stays off the bottom. Maybe australian rainbows or silver dollars?

african butterfly fish maybe? ive never seen one leave the surface
That's great idea. I cant imagine a crayfish eating one of them. And they both like hard water.:headbang2

Thanks for all your replies, I'm still sort of undecided but there's no hurry for me, just that lurking huge empty cycled tank with a little 6 inch crawdad running around thinking he is GOD.

Hunter - I thought African Butterflies liked softer water?

I guess I dont really know. I've never kept one. I thought most fish from africa liked hard water.
