Tank Plants

I have a few plants growing in water and was wondering if they were safe [Non-toxic to any aquatic creatures]..

● Anthurium - I have a nice bit a red anthurium growing in water, in a plastic container. Is it safe for a fish tank? Not fully submerged but just the roots? I believe it would look nice growing out of the tank, if I used on of those suction cup things.

● Sansevaria- I have two leaf cuttings of sansevaria, also called snake plant or mother-in-law's tounge, that I propagated in plastic cups of water. Both have grown an immense amount of roots and they have both sprouted three new plants out of the one leaf each. Could I suction cup it in an aquarium of fish? Or is it toxic? I've seen mixed opinions online that don't explain very well.

● Pothos- I have seen this in aquariums, but want to make sure it's also non-toxic to any aquarium critters.

The first two I would argue no because of the uncertainty, but the last one I've personally used and it was great. My fish occasionally nibbled on it and I didn't see any side effects from it. Here is a detailed thread regarding this:

I read the thread, and it mentioned anthurium contains toxins.
It didn't mention anything about sansevaria, though.

The question usually raised when dealing with house plants in aquariums is not whether they're toxic to the fish, but whether they are safe to be around the family pets, such as cats and dogs.

Many are toxic to cats and dogs should they injest a leaf for example, the classic one bring pothos, but probably would result in a mild stomach upset as opposed to death.

As far as fish go I really don't know if any are really that bad should the fish graze on the trailing roots, unless someone with experience can give us an example of an house plant that wiped a tank out!

I have a lot of houseplants and one of my eventual goals is to start growing some of them in my tanks. It's a project that interests me.

If they don't put toxins in the water then I'll probably start experimenting.
I would like to one day, grow these plants in all my tanks, especially Anthurium, because the red flowers look nice out the top.

Anthurium are beautiful. To maximise the size and quantity of the blooms they need good light. I'm guessing your tank isn't right next to a window to afford them the light they require, so supplementary above tank lights would maximise your flowering chances.

The tank I want to put the Anthurium in is on a night stand in one of my guest bedrooms. There are two large window that get around 8 hours of direct sunlight, bc it faces the west. The blinds are always open so the room generally tends to be bright. If necessary I can attach some of the above tank lights I have laying around.
