I got a 55 gal tank with 3 bichirs in it I'm new to this but I was told they were dinosaur eels but when I look them up it. it says bichirs but ppl call them dinosaur bichirs or dinosaur eels does that sound right?

Is this a big enough tank for them to grow, what fish are suitable tank mates for them

I read the intro page for polypterus fish n it has helped a lot I just don't know n.e thing bout this species

The names you called them are basically the names stores give them. You have what looks to be albino senegalus and a normal senegalus. On here they're typically referred to as "sens" or "albino sens". The tank you have them in now would be about the smallest you could fit them in. If you have the space, time, and money I would recommend upgrading to a 75g in the future. While sens usually tend to be the smallest of all Polypterus they are the most active so a large swimming space is a good thing to have. As far as tank mates, there's a couple general guidelines. 1) can the bichir fit this tank mate in its mouth? If so then it might eventually become food. 2) will this tank mate bully or harass the bichir? If so then it may end up stressing the bichir to death. 3) Can the tank mates eat the bichir? If so then it's an obvious no. If you follow those guidelines it's pretty easy to choose tank mates. It may require some research on your part to see if the fish you want to try and get will fit te requirements or not, but it's nothing that a 5 minute Google search can't help with. I would suggest putting a list of fish you want on a notepad or something, then sit down and research them a at once and mark them off as they don't fit, or circle them if they do.

I was told shrimp n guppies but not bloodworm to feed them Is there n.e thing else this species likes best???? Also I was told to only keep one side of the tank with the lights on because of the albinos but all 3 tend to hang out on the side that the light is off am I better off turning the light off completely??? Sry for dumb questions wen I say I'm new I mean like I've had betas n gold fish lol this was suppose to be like babysitting for a friend but I'm liking the fish it's a good hobby

I wouldn't feed live food. Too many things can go wrong. And shrimp is also something to stay away from. Like tlindsey said, pellets and tilapia are both about as good as you can do. Pellets that are made for bottom feeders are ideal, but really anything that will sink and has at least 30% protein should be good. I would recommend hikari sibling carnivore pellets or NLS pellets. With tilapia it's just the market fish tilapia. Just try to make sure it fresh tilapia (or you can probably even find it in the frozen isle) and nothing that's breaded or flavored etc..,
