So I have had my 125 set up for about five days so far. I used an established penguin biowheel 200 from another tank to seed it. I also filled it with 20 gallons of dirty gravel vac water and washed out a couple filter pads in the water. Along with the penguin there is a new Rena xp4 and a new penguin 350 on there. I added six giant danios the first day and have been feeding heavily. I tested the water today everything was zero.

I have had a lima shovelnose on hold at the LFS for a week now. And i'm not sure how much longer they will hold it. i'd really like to go pick it up today if it will be ok.

What do you guys think?

if you say all levels are zero nitrite and amonina and that you have had 5 large fish in ther sounds like the established filter has done the job. id keep a close eye on it tho and check me ph this can effect the amonia quite quickly 7.2 is good.

sorry 6

You tested and everything was zero, does this include your nitrate reading? How big is the shovelnose you will be adding?

Somehow I don't think giant danios in a 125g tank would count as large fish.

yes everything was zero, nitrate may have been slightly more but my eyes may be deceiving me. It was Identical to my established 55g tank. I don't plan on throwing in a bunch of fish right now, just the shovelnose for now. I still don't know the route I want to go as far as cichlids, too many options. He's about 3.5". I'm sure the giant danios will be a meal soon. I don't have a PH test kit. I should probably take a sample the the LFS.

You could probably add the shovelnose without much danger. Your tank at best is cycled to the 6 danios that are in it. A cycled tank will show a rise in nitrate levels.

my fear with adding the established penguin 200 to the tank was that it would not have enough bioload to support the bacteria in the established filter and that I would have a die-off of bacteria. Thats why I have been feeding (overfeeding) to provide a sufficient load, because i'm sure the danios are not doing anything.
