Quick question on reorganizing a tank: Do you recommend reorganizing a tank on occasion? Just did a partial WC on my 55 gallon that houses a single oscar and a pleco and was wondering about the stress factor involved.

Also, here's a quick shot of my tank...

In your case I don't think it's a problem that you don't rearrange things around.. it's more beneficial with African's, because of establishing territory. I just like to do it cause I get tired of it looking the same way too long...

Tank looks good btw...

IMO and IME re-arranging a tank is useless except for aesthetics. People think doing so will help resolve territorial disputes. In fact, this just makes the fighting start all over again. The fish will fight for new territories like they did in the beginning. If you leave the tank alone, the fish already have a pecking order and will just chase to keep others away from their territory. If you re-arrange, they have to battle to see who gets the best spot.

Figured it was more for aesthetics and less for the fish. I don't think my Oscar and Pleco have territorial disputes...they seem to cuddle at times. :) They don't seem to mind right now. Had my triangle of rocks in the center before with the larger driftwood to the right. Decided to just switch it up to try a different look and see what I like better.

I don't see a problem with it for your tank. Just don't rearrange for hours. If it isn't quite how you want it after an hour or so just finish another day.

Preferablely, I would just spend tons of time rearranging it until im satisfied.
No point in keep repeatingly get your hands wet everytime you move your deco around.

Could cause lots of stress to the fish if everyday was like a lake monster (hand) invaded it's home.
There is a saying "Do it once, do it right".

Just don't do it so much, plan out first before putting your hands in the tank

I only rearrange if adding more cover for the fish, or in the past, rearranging territories.
I wouldn't make it a regular event.

Search the forum, I started a topic on tank design tips. Use a dry erase marker :)
