hi and thanks for looking.
I have a nice black Aro that is about 18-24 inches. he's in a 210gallon community tank with Dats, CL's, bichirs and a few blue botia and plecos.
the 210 was a down size cause I moved. it is 72"x 24"x30"high. these fish were in a tank that was 96x36x36" that I had to leave behind. very heavy glass tank that was built in.

so I finally have a house and room for a new larger display tank. my question is, should I go for a longer tank or a wider tank? I have room for a system that has a 72x96 footprint but in all reality I could never get a tank that size in my basement. so should I look for 72x48x30 or 96x30x30?
my stair well is only 34" wide and all the windows are about the same height so even if I took them out I couldn't get a tank that was 36" down the stairs or thru the windows. the house is a split entry with a daylight basement.

what is better for my Aro, length or width?

thank again for looking.

so far two votes for width..... any reason why? sorry if this is a stupid question, this is my first Arowana

Width...is always good for anything....as far aro is concerned they grow fast and get big and soon you will realize that ..oh the width is short..... IMO with more width you can house more then 1 aro......i have a silver aro approx 18 '' in 24'' wide tank ...so facing width issue...and with length of 6-8 feet of your tank it is good to go!!!! .....:)

can they not build on site?

I am in rural Montana. there isn't anyone with in 200miles that even makes tanks let alone will come and build it in my basement. that was my first plan. I am still trying to get a guy to do it but I haven't had any luck yet. I am considering a DIY plywood tank. I think I could do it and I know it would save $ but I am worried about leaks. it is in my living room. we have just lived through a major remodel and I'm not excited about the mess of building it in place either.
I have started inquiring about a pentagon corner tank with 6ft sides or 6x8 sides. that would fit the space perfectly and give a nice wide area for the Arowana.
any suggestions on a manufacturer who could build this tank?

I guess build it yourself! im looking to build a glass tank myself because of my place of the tank in the basement an the super narrow stairs..
been youtubing a few videos

Length with proper width. 72" is too short a length for a 30"+ arowana.
