im looking for a long term solution to housing my bichirs. any tank larger than 100g here has to be custom-made, so getting price breaks for standard sizes dont apply. I probably cant keep additional tanks from the options listed below. (except a q tank)
my stocklist is 1 of the ff: endy, congicus, lap, ansorgii, pbb, weeksii, congicus, teugelsi, ornate, p. palmas, p. polli, p. buettikoferi and moke.
my options are:
option 1 6x2x2 - cons: im not sure whether the mokes and p. buettikoferi will eventually become big enough to join the lower jaws. The growth rate of the mokes have been abysmal.
option 2 2 5x2.5 (w) x 2 (h) - pros: the extra width may become useful 5-6 years down the line (the largest is 14-15" right now). same cons as option 1.
option 3 2 tanks, each tank 5 x 2 (w) x 1 (h) - pros: i can separate large and small bichirs. cons: height is only 12". I'm worried about bumping the height to 18", due to the weight (tanks will be using a double tier stand). The tank will be on the ground floor of a concrete house, but the weight still worries me.
any other suggestions? as bichirs grow bigger, do they become less flexible? I worry they start "freaking out" (like silver aros) once they become longer than the width of the tank, otherwise 6x1.5x1.5 tanks are easy to come by and are much cheaper here.
