i was trying to do some research and thought you guys and girls could help me out. we are looking into purchasing our first BIG fish tank:D. we have an idea of some of the fish we would like and would like to know what size of tank we are looking at and what other stocking options we have. we have decided we want 3-5 blood parrots, a green severum, a gold severum, an electric blue jack dempsey, and 2 albino tiger oscar. i want to have a lot more fish than that, i really like arowana's and stingrays and know for sure we don't want tinfoil barbs. got any other suggestions? are the longfin albino tiger oscars an option in this setup? if convict cichlids are possible, how many of them? are there pink convict cichlids, if so are they any good? any advice and suggestions you all can give us is extremely appreciated.

i'd be real careful mixing anything like oscars with an electric blue jack bacuse of how expensive he is. oscars are some of the dirtiest fish on the market, and you would be risking the blue jack. and also your not going to want aro's in with anything significantly smaller than it.

and for that many fish your talkin 150 - 200 gallon tank with a serious filtration system

For all the fish you mentioned I would say a 240gal (8x2x2) or larger, with either a sump filtration or 2-3 Fluval FX5. Once your fish get full size you probably don't need to upgrade as long as you don't over stock the tank and keep up with the maintenance.

Is this the size tank you had in mind? Also are you willing to spend some cash on a new tank or willing to go used?

200+ no doubt, or a couple three 90 - 120 gallon size tanks. Gonna need a hefty filter as well.
