Is it true that fish growth slows if the tank is smaller? And if it's not true where did that rumour start? My pleco had a growth spurt when I moved him to a tank with no other fish is that also a factor? He's getting to a size where I'm beginning to think about front-burner-ing the "buy and set up the bigger tank" plan.

Its more to do with water quality, and a larger tank generally has better quality water. As does a tank with no other fish

And now I know! aaand still worry that poor ishmael needs a bigger tank as soon as i have the money. He's got a 26 gallon bowfront ad he seems to be able to move around easily, he's got his driftwood and sideways pots but sooner or later (sooner is more likely) he'll need that 75 gallon we've been promising him. he's an L-83 I think, so...big tank necessary.

How do I show pictures? have a few of the tank and some of him hiding bu no idea how to post

The more water the more dilution that is the key to pollution management in aquariums.

However if a fish cannot even turn around in a tank... it may live but many people on here including myself would have some serious issues. Even if it has a constant water change system.

Many forum members also stand behind the idea that understocked tanks tend to bring out better coloring and behavior from the tanks residents. I agree with some exceptions such as schooling fish.

Wow I go against all those rules, I have crowded tanks many different types of plecos in the same tanks and lots of plecos in every tank. Some (most) plecos are just slow growers. The common ones always seem to grow really fast tho.
