On paper, if you will keep it for the 25-50 years of its life span (expected in captivity) in one tank, I'd say the minimum would be 12'x6'.
On average it'd be ok in an 8x2 for the first 1-2 years and 8x4 for the next 2-3 years. But some take up to twice less time than others to get to a 2' mark.
My juru is about 2.5 years old and closing in on 20 inches in a 600 8x4x2.5.. everyone guestimates these guys and tigs to be around 2 foot max but I wouldn't be surprised to see some clear almost 30.... I wouldnt keep one in anything smaller then a 8x4 for life ....7x3 min
Have they been bred in home aquaria before does anyone kkow, or are they all wild? I have a 4*3*2 tank I will be keeping him in for a while until I build my plywood tank, or come across a big tank, most likely gonna be building though.
Having seen a bunch of wild-caught adults, I suspect the max. size for B. juruense is actually closer to 3 feet than 2. Hard to say if they would ever reach that size in aquaria, though.
