Foot print of 6 X 3 absolute minimum.

These are rather subjective, a matter of opinion.

On paper, if you will keep it for the 25-50 years of its life span (expected in captivity) in one tank, I'd say the minimum would be 12'x6'.

On average it'd be ok in an 8x2 for the first 1-2 years and 8x4 for the next 2-3 years. But some take up to twice less time than others to get to a 2' mark.

Bigger is better.

My juru is about 2.5 years old and closing in on 20 inches in a 600 8x4x2.5.. everyone guestimates these guys and tigs to be around 2 foot max but I wouldn't be surprised to see some clear almost 30.... I wouldnt keep one in anything smaller then a 8x4 for life ....7x3 min

They're normally a pretty sedentary fish. Which is my reasoning for a 6' tank.

Have they been bred in home aquaria before does anyone kkow, or are they all wild? I have a 4*3*2 tank I will be keeping him in for a while until I build my plywood tank, or come across a big tank, most likely gonna be building though.

They are available seasonally, which probably means they only have come from the wild so far.

FWIW, I've never heard them to be artificially produced, which doesn't necessarily mean they aren't sometimes.

Having seen a bunch of wild-caught adults, I suspect the max. size for B. juruense is actually closer to 3 feet than 2. Hard to say if they would ever reach that size in aquaria, though.
