I am sure I could find it somewhere but me and my BF are having a bit of a dispute over tank size. I say my tank is big enough for Leo's or any of the black rays and he says in no way is it. Most of you know me on here but for those that do not I have had rays now since 2006 I currently have 3 retic mature adults 4 CB retic pups and a mature true hystrix so really I think I know a little about rays he on the other hand came into this knowing nothing about rays and wants to argue with me over tank size so maybe I am wrong but I say my tank is big enough to house leo's or BD's he says no way. Tank dimensions are 96x48x25 with a 180 sump and a 30 gallon pup tank all ran on the same system. Just curious this is strictly just a debate at this point I have no interest in getting any new rays. Current water volume is around 680 gallons

I admit I am new to rays but I think your tank would be fine for some , I mean how much bigger can you go lol ... if hes debating this with you maybe he thinks your going to buy some ? if thats the case why would he not want you to havec any ? only thing I can think of is december 24th is right around the corner and never know what "Santa" might bring .... or I may be off base but its my .02

Thanks guys kinda what I was thinking but really I am good with the rays I have I love them and am expecting litter number 5 any day and hoping for retic X Hystrix this time around we caught the 2 of them at it around August 20th. As far as I know it's never been done. My female has given me 10 healthy wonderful pups in the last 15 months. And John one of these days I wanna come see your set up those pond builds I watched look fabulous! I am just a hop skip and jump away from you in Spokane.

I would say big enough apart from the fact that it is already fully stocked with other rays IMO. If a tank is on the smaller side (to the point where someone is arguing it is too small) then you must look at stocking levels. Some people on here carpet the tank with rays, I think 2-3 is full based on an 8-10 by 4

Good thing I don't plan on adding any more rays and like the total says it was just a debate on if the tank size itself was big enough for black rays that was all the question was. Also even if I was wanting any black rays I probably wouldn't keep the rays I have and also the rays I do have are retic and Hystrix the smallest of all rays so I think I am not even remotely close to over capacity on the tank I have with the 4 adults and 4 pups I currently house in the 680 gallon system just my opinion on that though.

I say yes but it is really the rays decision. As long as you can keep the water clean and they rays are happy with each other then cool but if they get larger and decide they are not happy then you will know for sure. I am really anticipating litter #5 as well and hope it is a cross between the two. Eventually we will see tank hybrids that look like wild caught rays which will help lock in the idea of natural hybrids in the wild. I guess we will see once born.
