Just a quick question at what point should the gar be moved up from the 10-15gal into something bigger?
For example I had ordered one from the same place and about the same size. I put it in a smaller tank for now like it says to do. Well over a month later it's 2 1/4" longer and much bigger, enough that he could eat his previous self. How long should it stay in the smaller tank until it's time to move up?

Quite frankly there is not a given answer to that.. you need to determine that for your self given your knowledge gained so far about the fish. If you think it is ready to step up do so.. if not then do not.
I have a sort of formula to it but it is not a given for each individual fish.. Trust your gut and be cautious.
