OK I honestly think my tank is a bit too small for a gar but I figured I'd ask here and get some input. I've got a 150, dimensions are 6'x18"x30". I really don't want to cramp the fish so if you guys think it's too small I'll skip the gar

6x2x2 is bare minimum, 6x3 would be comfortable, 8x3 would be ideal, 18" wide will definatly not last is for life, or very long in fact. always bear in mind that gars need more turning space compared to most other fish...

the difference between 6 x 3 and 8 x 3 would be pretty negligible for a gar, since the extra open swimming room isn't really a necessity. the width is important. if you had the choice of going beyond the 6 x 3, i would move on to a 4' wide tank instead of going for a longer tank.
an 18" wide tank should be fine for a juvenile Florida/spotted for probably a year or two, MAYBE more...but a 2' wide tank is much better. a 3' wide tank should be fine for life--

That's about what I figured, thanks guys. This is 99% likely going to be my biggest tank so no to the gar...unless that outdoor pond project ever gets off the ground that is
