Does anyone know what the average tank size for a sunny should be? He's about 5 to 6 inches long roughly and right know I have him by himself in a 29 gallon tank that is heavily plastic planted for cover and has 2 caves. 50 gallon filter on it. Thanks everyone.

kind of rude to post in the media lounge and not post any media. :irked:
the average tank size for a sunny depends on what kind they are. you can keep a pygmy in a 10, an impressively large bluegill maxed out would need about 200.
what do you have?
I'd say a 29 is a bit small for a 6 inch fish unless they're a type that sits in ambush all day. right now I'd want him in a 50.

"Sunny" can refer to quite a few different species...it would help if we knew what kind were talking about? Also this is the media lounge, throw up some pictures!

For a longear or other smaller species you could probably get away with having one in a 29. I have a bunch in my 55 with some bass and catfish and they're all quite comfortable and it's very easy to keep the water clean.

Yes, but none of your fish are adult size. You will start running into issues soon enough.

I see your point about running into problems. I have a 150 in the garage that's getting set up when I move into my new house. AFAIC, the sunnies are primarily attractive looking fodder. Ultimately, I plan on having a pair of bass and a pair of catfish with various sunfish and crappie as dither fish / food.

I kept an adult longear with my fish but I got rid of him because he kept nipping the fins on my catfish. Other than that bad habit, he didn't make any appreciable difference in the tank. He was a hair over 8".
