I have an 8" 'Giant Gourami. Does anyone here own a full grown adult? (24" or larger?) And what size tank do you keep it in? Do you feel it is truely adequate? Any responses appreciated, thanks.

I had 3 in a 150 gal tank many years ago, they had to be rehoused when they hit 18 inches, it was just too small. They were going thru a head of romaine lettuce a day, the 50 gal sump with tons of filtration couldn't keep up with the bioload
What size are the largest commercially-built tanks? The biggest I have ever seen for sale in a pet store is 265 gallon. What dimensions are a 300 gallon typically?
I really enjoy having this guy too, but I am toying with the idea of rehoming him, or donating him to a pet store for rehoming if I feel I can't house him adequately... 
I am also thinking about buying one because i really enjoy their looks and personality, my tank is just over 2ft wide but it is over 10ft log so im sure it will be ok ?
Depends on several things, but the three big ones are tankmates, filtration, and size of course.
Hypothetically speaking, if you had a large filtration system with lots of biological filtration, and the gourami was the only fish, and you were doing regular water changes, you would be fine in about a 180-220 minimum.
However, I'm sure you want other fish, so I would recommend at least a 300+, with regular water changes and tons of bio-filtration. Giant Gouramis are pretty dirty fish from what I know
