Hey just picked up a giant albino lungfish. Would a 600 gallon be enough space for his entire life? He is around 30" now, is the tank too big for him initially? Any inside tips of tank/gravel setup would be appreciated. Thanks-
Kyle

That is way more tank then it needs. They can't have roommates so you are really wasting a big tank. A 72"x24" footprint would be big enough. Don't make the water very deep, they need access to the surface to breathe. Post some pictures or we don't believe you have it.

600 is quite alot of space for that lungfish. If you already have then there is no point in down-grading, and the lungfish will only get bigger with more space. Rodger is right with the tank size, even though bigger is always better.

Well he came from a 480 and I hate to put a fish in a smaller tank than he's used to. I have a few more tanks to put him in. I understand they don't need a lot of swimming space, but how is a 6 ft long tank big enough for a fish that grows up that big in the wild? Lol this monster fish keepers, why would I lie and ask a question about a fish I don't have? I'll post a pic though.

Yeah putting it in a smaller tank then what it came in would be mean. And it will take years, as in over 2 or 3 decades for it to reach 6 feet. So you have time.

Your LF doesn't need such a large tank now but, I can't wait to see the LF when it's size challenges this LF.
Do you know what subspecies that is? It isn't P. a. congicus due to the spots on the snout not forming a line, and it's not like any P. a. aethiopicus that I have seen, so I guess it is P. a. mesmaekersi, but I'm unsure.

Yea that is an amazing fish. I hope mine reaches that size 1 day. I have pics on my phone but I'm not sure how to transfer them to this site.
