can I put 2 arapaimas in a 36x10x4 tank or is that too small for them? if so what size do you recommend so they are not stunted!

I don't know of anyone who has kept arapaima for a long time successfully. I think there is a member in Thailand (Lucas?) who's arapaima is 6ft and lives in a pond a bit larger than yours; he has had it for 10 years or some such - that's the longest I know of. There is also TLkm who's got several pimas in a 60K pond.
Our pair killed itself by jumping out of 5000 gal 13x13x4.5 having reached 5.5ft. For myself, to try again, I'd aim for a 40x20ft and tall walls around the perimeter to avoid jumping out, or a strong net.

4 feet is tight longterm. Not many people have pimas, so it’s hard to get accurate experience.
yes I meant feet, and how long can I keep one in a 12x6x4 before I put it in a 12,000 gallon tank
Mine is just under 5' right now in a 16'x10'x 4deep, it outgrew my 4'x8'x4.5' (1000gal) in apprx. 2 yrs. It is doing great and prospering currently. Can't wait to get the 22'x12'x6' that I have planned, built. Because even though It's doing great, BIGGER! Lol. Oh crud, this is bigplantedtanks.com right?! My 1 paima is the pinnacle of fish to me. Hope to make it as comfy as possible, and keep it w me as long as possible.
