Hi I'm new to the forum. I was thinking of purchasing a used 5' x 2' x 2' tank for either a male motoro ray or a reticulated ray. I've done some research and the teacup ray doesn't grow as big as the motoro. However, the motoros are hardier and easier to keep. I haven't purchased anything yet, and I only want the best for the animals, but is this tank too small for stingrays? If it is too small, what would be the minimum footprint for a motoro?

I think youll want at least 3 feet width for motors. You could do cool mini marbles in that tank, hystrix, or scobina. I don't think they're any harder to keep than motoros, and if they are considered that way, probably not by any degree of magnitude worth mentioning. Some difficult south american rays are tigers and flowers

Thanks! I know I want to keep one reticulated ray. I should probably only keep 1 in that size tank right? I don't have the space to separate them if they become aggressive. Are black ghost knifefish and angelfish good tankmates with them?

Ghost knife is ok, angels will probably get eaten in the long run but I dont know for sure, I have no experience with angels. Im in that stereotypical 'rays, bass, catfish' category

I had to remove my black ghost knife. He was going after my rays eyes.

My 180 is 6’x2’x2’. Motoro should be good for at least 2 years.
