I am finally moving into a house and am thinking of building a monster freshwater tank in the basement. How large of a tank would I need for an Umbee or Dovii? And what dimensions would better? Longer tank vs. wider tank.

At least 8 feet and two feet wide is minimum in my opinion three is better but that being said you don't have to start out with that just have it by time it's 18 or so inches

Well female umbees get WAY smaller. so they will need a smaller tanks. Female doviis get a little smaller than males and will need a smaller aquarium.

The other fish I was thinking of getting was a Haitian cichlid, black nasty, these get a lot smaller than an umbee so big of a tank and would they be able to be housed with oscars or a flowerhorn?

Way to dumb it down so everyone can understand... I would say 300+ for a male umbee or dovii, and ive seen females in as small as 125 but not sure if that is best for them so i would say 180 for females

My Dovii will be going into his permanent home here in a couple weeks. 60"x36"x30" =280gal, that is plenty for them. Where as the Umbee is more of an open water predator so I would say a 6' 135 gal would work fine for a while, but eventually a longer tank around 8'. I say a 240 gal @ 8'x24"x24" would be perfect.
