Hi all, Last weekend while looking at the tanks in my LFS i came across some beautiful Red Spot Severums. The only reason i did not pick any up is i have no idea what there requirements are.
Can someone help me out with tank size, aggression, growth rate, tank mates also if i was after a breeding pair would it be best to get a group then wait for a natural pair to form or get an older male and female and put them together. If i do go with a breeding pair what size tank will i be looking for when they are adult size?
Sorry to keep yabing on but also what size do they become sexually mature?

Thanx Steve.

they get big 10-12inches so a decent sized tank is needed would say 75-90gal could house a pair

All the sev's I have ever owned have maxed out before reaching 10". They are docile. I have had bala sharks pick on them before. They can be kept with a range of tank mates. You could keep a pair in a 75 Gallon Im sure...maybe even a 55

I've never heard of a 12" Severum but I guess it could be possible. I think 8-10" is more accurate. I do agree 75 gallons should be fine for a mating pair. I've bred a pair of 7-8" Sevs in a 55g.

Thanks for the replies, The sev's at the LFS are around 1.1/2 to 2 inches should i get a few or can they be sexed at this size. Also If i get a couple of the juvies how long will it be before they reach the 6 inch mark.

Steve
