hey guys,

at the moment i have:

vieja:
- coatzacoalcos (like zonatum)
- synspillum (melanurum)

i am looking to add some more fish but only when i have upgraded from my 46 bow front to a larger tank.

my question is guys, what size tank is recommended for my fish? (were talking full grown)
i would also like a devil, managuensis, trimac and others. basically i am looking to add another 2 large americans to a tank, such as those from the amphilophus large agressive cichlids, however most are not available in this god forsaken country... hahah

would a female dovii/umbee suit?

thanks guys

I would say a 240

Dovii and Umbee definitely won't work, they will end up killing your Vieja unless you get an ENORMOUS tank. The "devil, managuensis, trimac and others." might work, but I still severely doubt you'll get a chilled out enough Trimac. I'm sort of in the same situation as you. The Vieja are too mean to keep peaceful fish with, but not aggressive enough to keep up with some Amphs and other CA out there. Every fish is different, it's all just a guessing game. I definitely wouldn't try Umbee or Dovii, probably not Trimac either... but you might get away with the others if you're lucky. 180g bare minimum, the bigger, the better. I'd just get the maximum tank size your budget allows to increase your odds of semi-peaceful coexistence.

Just to demonstrate how every fish is different... I have a male Salvini who has taken over my Vieja tank and he's one of the smallest fish in there. He's going back to the store when I get the time :)

really a 180 would be my absolute max, so if i wanted just the two fish would they be okay in a 125? im thinking 72 x 18 x 18 so thats what i have to work with
