Anyone have any guesses/examples of max amount of clown loaches kept in say a 300g? I'm considering planning towards an all clown loach tank with a flagtail prochilodus and maybe marble hatchet fish on top.

I picked up another 38 clown loaches today. Putting my count at 71. The ones I picked up today are only 1 inch long each. My other 33 are 3-4 inch range.

The tank I'm invisioning these in is the perfecto 72x36x27 300g. Wide tank. With dual overflow/sump with 2-3 fx5s hooked up. Weekly water changes are already in effect and have been for over a year. What do you think max numbers of just clown loaches would be for 300g with massive filtration?

Currently the 33 larger ones are housed in a 6x2x18inch tall tank. roughly 135 gallons.

The new 38 are in a 10g, heavily planted tank. Until I get an extra 55g setup this weekend.

that many should be fine. Maybe even more. I'm envisioning an 8x3 360 gallon though

with the speed these lil buggers grow... or rather the lack of speed..

my vote is 200 at 6"-9".. maybe 50-70 FULL grown..

In a 72x36x27 300g tank, IMHO you will already be maxed out with the 33 larger loaches, once they get some size to them. I'm not sure why some people think that clown loaches enjoy being stacked up like firewood in captivity?

How many you can have in a tank depends on the growth rate you want, the size of the loaches, your filtration and how often you change water. If I started a 300 gallon loach tank I would have so many that I'd have to live under a bridge with the tank.

I personally don't think that one should inhibit a fishes growth, for their own selfish desires.

That could be said for just about any species on here. People are always going to put oscars in a 29, or PBass in a 55. It comes down to the keeper and the way they maintain there tanks. In a 300 w/mega filtration and a WC schedule, those loaches, even all 70, will be happy. Worst case senario, he grows them out and thins out the non-oddballs...
