Tina is right.. No less than a 60 gallon and bigger is always better :D
 
I have one in a 100G. :D

And one in a 55G. :wall::p

Sure the fish much happer in 100. But the best part is it's so easy to keep clean and good water quality.

Most like tall tanks and as they get bigger 18" wide is nice. I think for a full grown adult, 75 and up, 60's are nice and tall tho. Really depends on your budget tho and how fast you want it to grow.
 
for a full size flowerhorn witch would be about 17'' you would need a 100-120 tall i run a 55g for each of mine and it works ok but i have to do monitor the ph alot cause they are messy fish
