hi everyone, new here and to alot of these high quality fish, and am wondering what size tanks i should look into getting. all i have now is a 45 bow style and can't put fish in it untill i get rid of turtles( anyone in new jersey interested in three red ear sliders about 8 inches long?lol).. also looking into a one hundred gallon tank... wuts a decent size tank for small arowanas, possibly gar, and a few other fish im not sure of the names( ill get back to you with them).

what fish/sizes of fish should i start with in the 45?THANKS IN ADVANCE GUYS

No such thing as "small arowanas". All species of arowana, will eventually require large tanks with multiple hundreds of gallons.

Try smaller species of polypterids...senegals for example.
Like Bderick said there really is no small aro, minimum of 180, but a larger tank is even better. (8x3)
Gar you can try florida/spotteds in a 5x2, or even a 4x2. Gar need width more than length.

Your aro looks quite comfortable in that bowl.;)

tank dimensions are three feet long, twelve inches wide on sides, about 15.5 mid width(bow shape tank), and 18 inches tall

Yep, you can expect at least 24" out of arowanas, hopefully more given a proper tank. About the same applies for common species of gar kept as well, but they aren't quite as active as arowana. Definitely wouldn't keep either permanently in anything smaller than 180 gallons (you could probably get away with a little less for gar, but I wouldn't), preferably more if possible

i know with my fourty five i wouldn't be able to keep fish long but i am interested to know what fish i can keep in it...id realy just like to get started with this... i am willing to sell a fish once it gets too large for the tank

I think a mini-african tank would be cool.
African butterfly fish, smaller growing polyperids (delhezi, senegal, palmas, etc), maybe a few African knifefish

In a 45, one African Knife. They get along fine when they're little, but they get touchy as they get older. I gave the smaller of my pair to my sister because the bigger one was gonna kill him otherwise. I had hoped raising them together would prevent problems, but it didn't.

If you are that set for an aro do that...
But FIRST find someone (on MFK!) whom could take it off your hands once it reaches 14" or so.
