Getting into natives and am wondering what tank size is most used? Looking on craigslist and cant decide a size. I know bigger is better but i dont have the room for a $1,500 500 gal tank. The spot i picked out is long enough for a 120g. What are good demensions for a tank? Thinking of keeping sunfish, rock bass, anything that stays under 14"

4 foot long, 2 foot wide for 120 gal

The rule of thumb I use is that the smallest dimension of the tank should be at least twice the largest fish's adult length. You don't have to use the absolute world angling record maximum, though; few individuals of Lepomis or Ambloplites will ever hit 14" in a tank. A 24" wide tank is plenty; the longer it is, the more fish you can keep.

Also consider keeping relatively small-bodied, small-mouthed sunfish such as orangespots, dollars, longears, or redspots; this will allow you to keep a larger number of fish as well as a variety of non-centrarchid tankmates such as minnows, madtoms, and large darters.
