I have a 75-gallon tank that I have been housing 2 Oscars, 2 jack dempseys, 2 convicts and a blue acara in for a while now. They are getting along great and they are all thriving, The Oscars are growing at a crazy rate (as they do) and it's only a matter of time for all of them to reach full size. So I figure it's time to stop putting off buying the tank that will be their final home. Just not sure how big to go.

Do you think a 225-gallon would work once they are all fully grown?

Hello,
You have the right idea with the upgrade, and yes I think a 225 gallon tank should do fine for that mix. Only problem I can foresee is that convicts are notorious little jerks, and even in a big tank like that they might bother your other fish. Maybe not. If they do, I would just replace the convicts with a less crazy species.

Thanks for the feedback. I want to make sure I need to only buy one massively expensive tank as opposed to going to small and realizing I need a bigger tank.

It's refreshing to read this thread. Almost every time I click one with a similar title I end up reading the first few posts and giving up in disgust. It's usually "I have 10+ potentially foot long or greater species in my 40 gallon can I add more?" or the common "my water is fine and they are "happy". Which I interpret as living like sardines surrounded by filth kind of posts. So well done :)

I agree. It’s nice to see someone really care about the fish’s long term health vs. their own interest. Most want to stuff a lot of fish in a small space.
