HELP my 250 gal sprung a leak last night! about 2/3 of the way down on the front right corner!! Will silicone work?

u gotta drain the tank lower then the leak. cut the old glue out and re silicone it. if that doesn't do it i recommend draining the whole tank, cutting out all the old silicone and re-siliconing the entire tank all at once.

Just reseal with silicone. It'll be fine. But just remember...it takes silicone at least 24 hours to set. You don't want that nasty smell to get in the water, so drain your tank and hopefully, you have a place to put your fish in for the time being.

you need to strip the tank of the old silcone and re-seal the edges. And make sure you CLEAN the area being sealed very very very well, I can't stress that enough. I had re-slealed a tank and it leaked the first time after I had done it. so becareful about that.

I thought you couldnt silicone over existing silicone? When Ive done it I took ALL the old silicone off and added an all new seal to the entire tank.

OK, tank is drained. Only about 3" of water left. fish are in a couple of Rubbermaid storage bins that I keep around for emergencies. Big ones, look to be about 45 gal each (just a guess).

Strip the old silicone off, clean REALY good, re seal, wait 24 hours to let dry, re fill tank. Slowly.
Right?

If you can get your hands on some acetone, wiping down the surface will remove all the dirt an oils on the glass to give you a better seal.

acetone=nail polish remover. Shouldn't be too hard to find; just keep it far away from your fish.

Got the silicone, nail polish remover I can get easily. Apreciate the help all.
Here goes nothing!

PS, best way to clean the nail polish remover off the tank before aplying silicone?

Thanks

:( MY CLOWN KNIFE DIED. Jumped out of the holding bin I had him in. I was away for a while. Never tried to jump before! SIGH
