What color would you paint a DIY wooden tank stand. Leaving it unpainted is not an option.

I would personally do cherry wood but between those two id do the glossed

I agree that a cherry or natural wood stain would look the best, but due to the quality of wood I used I think black paint would be best.

Unless black fits into the color palette used in the room it would be my last choice.
Consider using satin or semi gloss in a color or colors that are already in the room.

That looks awesome.

The stand will be going in the basement. The walls are covered in wood paneling. There's two reclining chairs there which are brown, a table (brown), shelving (brown), table top lights (brown), tv and stand (black), huge speakers (black and brown), beer fridge (black), cabinet (brown). It seems there would only be 2 color options for the stand, black or brown. Since it'll be against the wall I figure brown will blend it into the wall. which wont look good. Black I guess is the only logical option.

Now its a question of gloss or flat. The poll isn't helping my decision much. I figured that most of you would have picked gloss but right now it's at 50-50. I went out and bought some gloss black only to come home and find an old can of flat black in the garage. So really both options are still open.

Is there any pros and cons to gloss vs flat?

Here's a shot of where it'll be going. The 2 tanks underneath wont be there (obviously)

I vote you add mroe color to your life man!!! lol...

I'd go glossy. I have a store bought flat black stand and I've been threatening to paint it glossy for years...

I would think glossy would reflect more light (i.e. glare from lights), but it will also be easier to wipe down any spilled water.

It's really just a preference question. You could take a scrap piece of wood and paint half flat and half gloss, then see how each one looks leaned against the wall where the tank will be. That will give you some idea of how it will look in place...
