I picked up a 40 gal tank with filters, etc. and stand recently. I really only need the stand which is sized for a standard 75 gal tank. The stand looks solid and was manufactured for an aquarium, but the base of it had some water damage at some point in time. I couldn't tell the extent of it until the system was broken down and I could flip the stand over. The base appears to be made of pressed board while most of the upright pieces are wood.
I removed the entire base from the stand and looked it over. I don't think I want to use it as the water damage started to separate the material in one corner and on another section on the opposite end. The fellow I bought this from had the 40 gal tank on it without any issues, but I am going to put a 75 gal tank on it.
Would it work if I cut a sheet of plywood, say 3/4", to size and screwed that to the upper section of the stand as a new base?
